Chris Green is Chief Executive of SQW Group, the parent company of SQW and Oxford Innovation. Chris has over 35 years experience of economic development and planning work in public and private sectors, including 25 years in consulting and 10 years in local government in the UK and Australia. He has particularly strong experience in relation to innovation and technology-based development, and at the interface between economic and spatial development. In April 2014, the 'Gigabit City' initiative was announced by a joint venture of CityFibre, Talk Talk and Sky, to roll-out fibre-to-the-premises services across much of the city of York. Seeking to exploit this new infrastructure and other digital developments, the City of York Council commissioned SQW to help develop a 'smart city' strategy for York. Mr. Green and his team researched international benchmarks of good practice in smart city developments, engaged with local stakeholders to develop a vision and strategic direction for York's smart city programme, and developed an outline business case for a shortlisted set of projects to be progressed. He also worked with Steer Davies Gleave (UK) to link together ICT and transport smart city initiatives and also working with Siemens to specify in detail the technology solutions and costs related to different strategies.
